Dear Northwest Families,
As all of you know, we had a significant storm early Saturday morning. This storm had caused damage to Stinson with part of our roof being torn away and several classrooms being flooded.
Because of the damage done to Stinson, that building and only that building will be closed to students for the day on Monday, May 19, 2025. This will be a calamity day for our children who attend Stinson. Faculty and staff will still report as a regular work day.
Stinson will be closed tomorrow. Northwest High School, Northwest Middle School, and the Primary will remain open for all of our students on Monday, May 19.
We have had a team working on clean-up of Stinson yesterday and today. We will have a crew in at Stinson at 7:00 am to repair the damage done to the roof. So that all of you are aware, insurance will cover the cost of making the repairs and damage done at Stinson. Even though Stinson will be closed tomorrow, we will resume school with students at Stinson on Tuesday, May 20.
To be clear, we will still carry on with our regularly scheduled activities outside of Stinson. The Senior Parade will go on today starting at 6:00 pm. More importantly, graduation will proceed as scheduled for tomorrow, May 19 at the First Christian Church in Canton.
We apologize for the disruption; however, this is the wiser and safer decision for all of our students at Stinson to stay home tomorrow and resume in class on Tuesday.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, feel free to call me anytime at 330-573-9024. Thank you for your continued trust in us. I hope you have a peaceful Sunday.
Respectfully,
Shawn Braman
Superintendent
Northwest Local Schools
